Futuristic multiplayer arena shooter

ATOMEGA is a multiplayer arena shooter. Based around a block power up style, players compete to grab as many as possible to grow in size and power.

Cube up

ATOMEGA is an interesting take on the arena shooter. Up to eight players start in a neon, blocky world filled with purple cubes as a small sphere of light. As players collect purple cubes, they evolve through a series of 6 stages. Each stage is more powerful, gaining arms and legs as they go, but suffer from a lack of mobility and speed. This unique take becomes extremely shallow after only the shortest playtime. The possibility of staying as a small ball of light, dashing between huge lumbering giants, using reaction time and skill to snipe them down is just not an option as the game is purely decided by points. While ATOMEGA is in a sense an indie title, the game studio is a division of Ubisoft, which makes the single map, small player base and lack of any additional content or modes feel insulating. After an hour of playtime, this single map has revealed all its secrets and little is left but cosmetic upgrades and hoping that enough people are online to play a game.

Shallow as a puddle

ATOMEGA is an overall failure. The core game mechanics are solid, but the lack of extra content leaves a sour taste even if the game is fairly cheap.
